Structure Fire East Genesee Street

On Friday, February 2nd at 22:23 hours, the Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for a reported Structure Fire on East Genesee Street between Ceigler Place and Seneca Street. Police arrived reporting heavy smoke and doors hot to touch. Chittenango Chiefs arrived shortly thereafter to find a commercial building on fire and declared a Working Structure Fire.

The initial box alarm included a full response from Chittenango, an engine from North Chittenango and Bridgeport, and a ladder from Manlius and Fayetteville. Crews from Chittenango Engine 681 and Fayetteville Ladder 20 arrived and stretched fire attack handlines inside the building to extinguish the fire. Due to the extent of the fire, Chiefs activated a second alarm for additional units from Kirkville and Canastota to the scene, and Cazenovia to standby at our station.

After the fire was knocked down crews worked on ventilation, checking for extension, and overhauling the burned contents. An aggressive fire attack kept the fire damage contained to the front of the building. Four hours later units were back in service.

This was our third Structure Fire within the past week, the first being on January 28th on Quarry Rd followed by another on January 29th on North St.

The Chittenango Fire Department would like to thank our brothers and sisters that responded to our aid including North Chittenango Fire, Bridgeport Fire, Canastota Fire, Cazenovia Fire, Manlius Fire, Fayetteville Fire, Kirkville Fire, Madison County EMS, County Coordinators, and Chittenango Police.
